Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is two-way communication with the aim of broadening both the teacher's and the students’ knowledge and understanding. I strongly believe that teaching should be participatory, focused on teacher-student interaction. In my opinion, students’ interests related to the course content I teach should be encouraged to promote engagement with the prepared lesson. With an emphasis on student engagement, I encourage an interactive environment in which students express themselves in a respectful manner while learning to critically analyze course materials. Towards this goal, I employ multiple teaching strategies—such as discussion questions, small group discussion and projects, video and interactive media analysis, and online discussions of contemporary media issues—to reach students with different learning styles and educational and cultural backgrounds.

Teaching should include:

  • Conveying positive energy and passion about the topic.

  • Providing examples to make theories applicable and easier to understand

  • Incorporating students’ interests.

  • Enhancing students' competence and broadening their minds.

  • Accumulating knowledge from previous lectures and applying them to new lessons

  • Providing necessary feedback

  • Keeping up with developments in technology

  • Evaluating and assessing students’ knowledge by their participation in class discussion, and by grading their class assignments and final projects
